Shawnee Tidy Town 2019
SHAWNEE, Kan. —
Shawnee residents looking tidy things up around their homes have a chance to get rid of some of their bulky items starting this weekend.
The city of Shawnee’s annual Tidy Town event begins Saturday and is spread out over three weekends. The city is split into three sections, and curbside collections depend on where you live.
The first day for pickup is Saturday for residents west of Switzer Road, north of Shawnee Mission Parkway and east of Interstate 435. The next event is on May 4 for residents west of Switzer, south of Shawnee Mission Parkway and east of 435. The final day for Tidy Town is on May 11 for residents west of 435.
There are some guidelines and restrictions, though.
On your Tidy Town date, you can set out five items on the curb and the items must be set out by 7 a.m. Some of the bulky items that can be set out include furniture, mattresses, washers, dryers, push lawn mowers without fuel or oil and up to four rolls of carpet.
Items that aren’t accepted include refrigerators with freon, wood fencing or decking materials, construction materials, latex or oil-based paints, glass panels larger than 4 feet, tires, automotive batteries, engine oil or fuel tanks, hazardous materials or waste, yard waste and compressed gas cylinders.
The city offers a drop-off location and details about the times the location is open, and the restrictions for drop-off materials can be found on Shawnee’s Tidy Town website.
